Default d-ring held by bed bolts?

Has anyone mounted d-rings with the truck bed bolts? I'd like to add some tie down points and was wondering if it would hurt anything to secure them with the bed bolts.

I just bought a 2019 and thought d-rings would be useful. The factory mounts are raised up and the box links are even higher. Strapping low loads (long pieces of baseboards with the tailgate down) is difficult. Having a 5.5’ bed makes it tougher.

Just wondering if you did this? Where did you get the d-rings? I did this on my Tacoma and used Dodge d-rings.

Hi, I have for my generator mounting. I bought large single bolt hole "D" rings from an E-bay seller. I removed the bed bolts and chucked them in my drill press; I then used a file to remove the washer retention bump /ridge. This allowed for the most threads to be used and with the thick steel base, no washer is needed.

Yes, the bed bolts are arguably the best locations to attach heavy loads.

But for long, lightweight material, it's not really necessary. Just wrap your strap at least once around the bundle before tightening it. That will keep the material together & in the truck, even using the higher tiedowns. It works on trailers, too.

That looks good. The baseboard example maybe wasn’t the best, but having tiedown points on the floor is what I’m after.

I’ll have to find some d-rings.

I've always hated that tie downs are really designed for tall loads (dirt bikes) even in the super duty trucks. I've moved a bunch of skids with steel plates to machine back and forth and it's a total pain to secure that kind of load without a flat bed.

Yep...used a set of Dodge Sprinter D-rings on my 2012, and they work great.

Bed bolts aren’t supposed to be reused. Doesn’t stop any of us from doing so when LineX takes them out and puts them back. Just thought you might want to know. If you’re taking it apart anyway, might want to buy new bolts too. Mine have been removed and reused, so I’ll probably have my bed shear off someday if ever in a bad accident. I’m kind of surprised that LineX knows about this and still reuses them. Seems like one lawsuit would shut that down.

I grabbed an extra set the last time I was at the dealer, and plan to get em black zinc coated with some other stuff that I'm having coated. Never a bad idea to slap on some new bolts, especially since I had to grind down the little ridge on the bolts that holds the washer on to install the d-rings.

Are the bed bolts torque-to-yield or something? Given the size of them I don't really get why they couldn't be reused...

Also I like this d-ring idea, may have to look into this myself. What is the diameter of the shank on the bed bolts?
