Here's my take:
The Powerstroke diesel used in the F250 is a big engine. Fuel mileage is probably 12-20 depending on the area, city/highway. Fuel mileage around town will be better with the diesel than a gasoline engine; on the highway, the gasoline models do as well or better for several reasons.
If you're looking for performance, the gasoline powered jobs will outstrip the diesels under almost all conditions.
On top of all that the maintenance schedules for diesels is very similar to gasoline schedules and about twice as much oil is required per change for the diesel.
So, unless you're doing lots of towing and/or in-town driving, the gasoline models will serve you better....However, if you have a love for CI engines, then go diesel.

if you put a tuner in a diesel, and some other bolt ons, you can wake them up big time, and i've seen plenty of diesels smoke gassers at the strip, granted it takes a little money, but who doesn't love a 7.3 stroker?
