I prefer the console in the middle with shifter there, the arm rest storage is bigger than the flip up seat rest storage by far.
Though I'll admit there's 1 thing I do miss once in a while about not having the open floor flip up seat models.
It's during those long drives when I have 8 hr + drive time, where you're able to move around a little more & change leg/foot placement like onto the middle floor board vs sitting in the same position in the bucket seat all day.
Don't get me wrong I love the bucket seats/console, though long drives I miss being able to move around more.

If you have the choice go with a console regardless of shifter. location. I have the column (makes me sound old) and no problems. It's just I never use the middle seat.

My truck has a column shifter and my wife's explorer has a console shifter. I don't have a preference for the shifter itself, but I do prefer the open room on the floor with my column shifter. And although there have been a few times when the extra seat would have been nice, I love the console in my truck.

Love the console shifter. Bonus points, keeps me out of trouble since with a reg cab and console shifter, cannot pick up street prostitutes.....

my 07, 14, 16 all had the column shifter...when I ordered the 18 I made sure to get the sport package because I wanted the console shifter in the worst way(along with other things)..however I do miss the small storage cubby on my 16 where the shifter would be if it was floor shift. that was perfect for a cell phone

I prefer the console and console shifter. All my cars and trucks in the last 20 years have had it.

Have jump seat and column shifter - works well.

No F'n way IMO that is, i'd want either a steering wheel shifter or a goofy **** shifter as in the Rams.
I bought my F150 primarily because the Sport pkg. has the center console stick shifter.

I once had for a very short while a '60 something hand me down Chevy car with a manual tranny that was equipped with a steering wheel lever type shifter
Never again.

Between driving my truck (column shifter) and the wife's Explorer (floor shifter) I prefer my column one. But as far as the jump seat, I think I'd prefer that to just be a big storage console. Not much room in the top compartment for much of anything and you have to fold everything up to get to the bottom one.
