If using it to tow, then the Ford is what you are needing. As you pointed out about the RV's, I see the same thing at campgrounds, majority of tow rigs are Fords. One thing though, the title say's FX4. Forget FX4, it is not a trim, just a cheap option package for a minor off road kit. If into serious off roading, one would be better off putting real aftermarket off road shocks and skid plates on and forgetting FX4. The button for downhill assist costs about $20 shipped and is easy to install and program. To me that is the best part of the option package. Also if you are using the truck to tow, them Ecoboost with the Max Tow package gives everything you need except the mirrors, including the 3.55 e-lock rear end, and combined with FX4, you pay for it twice.
Sounds like you could get by with an XLT 302a 4x4 with Max Tow and have a beast of a tow vehicle, and still have more goodies than a Toyota.
One of the other things that skews people, reliability doesn't mean crap anymore when complaints about how the infotainment functions make it seem as though the truck has issues, when in reality, people just don't want to spend the time to learn how it works. When you consider the number of trucks Ford has produced, the number of Ecoboost engines on the road, the numbers compared to Toyota, you will find that the percentages are pretty much equal. There are more of them, so it is only natural that there would be more faulty ones. Toyota is not 100% reliable, look how many had to have frames replaced because the rotted in half. I have had a couple Toyota's, and they were far under a Ford when it came to comforts, a car isn't very good if it is a literal pain to drive, regardless of how reliable it is.
