I ran the canned SCT X3 tune in my 06 5.4 while waiting for my Troyer tunes. I was not very impressed with it. Most of the HP gain was way up top and the trans shifted too hard all the time, MPG was no better maybe a little worse. The Troyer tune is amazing, big HP gain thoughout the rpm band, no more mid throttle dead spot, trans shifts smooth as silk unless you are WOT then it bangs into gear like it should, launching you down the road and I picked up an honest 2 MPG. Troyer tunes really do deserve all the props they get on this site, I was an unbeliever untill Troyer performance proved it, my money was well spent for a change.

have you visited any of the websites of SCT dealers that have been named? a quick look at their site would answer any questions.

I've been researching tuners quite a bit lately, and the people who sell / program them, either 1) won't comment about there use regarding warranties, or 2) will flat out tell you, "yes" they can affect your warranty.
There is also some evidence to suggest that a Ford technician, if trained properly, "can in fact tell" that your onboard computer has been used with a tuner > even if it has been reset < Or, at the very least, can see that the computer has been reset, when you put it back to factory settings.
I totally agree that its very unlikely that a properly set up, after market tuner would damage your motor or drivetrain..... However, there is always the chance that your motor or drivetrain could develop problems which have nothing to do with the aftermarket tuner.... and then, the aftermarket tuner just becomes a "conveniant excuse" for a dealer not to cover your drivetrain issues.
Likely ? Of course not. But then would you buy a new vehicle and tell them, "I really don't need any warranty whatsoever. Why don't you just drop the 5 yr 60K warranty, and give me another $500 off of the price" ? Of course you wouldn't.
Just food for thought.
I will eventually get a tuner for my truck..... However, I plan to wait at least 6 months or a year, to get my truck totally broken in, and to make sure I have gotten a solid motor, with no factory issues. Plus, this will give me a good chance to see how the truck operates stock, so that when I do get the tuner, Autopartswarehouse I will be able to compare differences.
Peace,
Fish
