Default cold starts

Hey everyone,
My '98 f-150 has been acting up after sitting for around 8 hours or more. I would start it up, it would run for a second than shut off. This would happen for 4 straight times on the 5th the truck will stay running normal. Would this be a sign that the fuel pump is going bad? For a novice, where do I start?

Its a good idea to have the pump pressure tested, its not fool proof, but does help with diognosing. If the pump is lazy to get motivated, the pressure test during this hard start condition will help tremendously.

The fuel filter is 2 years old and the past week or so it went down to 32 degrees.
