Question

Did you reset the BMS (Battery Manangement System)?

Either by the dealership flashing the BCM -or- leaving the vehicle uninterrupted for 8 hours after changing the battery.

I swapped mine to an optima yellow top and it did great. I didn't flash it or leave it uninterrupted. Wish I could answer your question. Ford has a lot of **** that attaches to these batteries though.

I just changed the battery in my 2013 5.0 last weekend.

The manual had a procedure to run through after the change and it wasn't let it sit for 8 hours.

It was basically start, let it idle for a minute in park, idle for a minute in drive, idle for a minute with a/c on then drive for 10 miles.

Check your manual.

Also stop by the dealer and have them check your BCM and reset if necessary. I was getting the occasional dead battery and battery saver messages which were cured by a trip to the dealer.

I think it was run down battery events that led to the early death of my OEM battery.

Indeed. And I've learned that lesson and with some expensive batteries. Then I discovered the following general info when learning about off-grid solar (which is battery power, first and foremost).

Too many deep discharges can kill a battery. Even if a deep discharge happens only occasionally, too, what can kill a battery is leaving in a deep-discharged state (less than a 20% state of charge, approximately) more for more than a day or two, worst-case.

Always recharge a battery after a considerable drain on it's state of charge... and if you're only driving your truck for short trips, the battery cannot become fully charged; there's not enough time. It's a good idea to at least twice monthly stick a voltmeter onto your rested (overnight) battery and measure it's voltage. On a 60-degree morning, anything below 12.2 volts is less than a 50% state of charge, and you should top off your battery. I like to top off when only at a 75% SoC.

Battery Monitoring System (BMS) is what the Ford shop manual calls it, if it's managing anything, It would be the alternator.

BMS reset procedure with Ford "Diagnostic Engineering Tool":
Go to Gen Diagnostics and select Module ID to 726 (BCM)
Select Service 0X10 and extendedDiagnosticSession, and press "Send Message" button
Select Service 0X31
Check "User Defined" box, and type in "201A"
Press "Send Message" button

What? BCM = body control module.

I swapped mine in the parking lot at Sams, no issues. Guess I am doomed!

Better sell it before it blows up.

The manual says that the idle/drive stuff is for it to re-learn the fuel trim.

Worst case, you get a little lower gas mileage.
