Default CB Radios...

Hello folks,
I dont what experience you guys have with CB, but Ill ask anyway...
Ive slapped a CB radio in my truck, got myself a freebie 4 foot magnet mount Antenna with an old Realistic CB, anyway It works beautifully in my driveway with the engine shut off, I can hear 19 clear as a bell getting bear reports and what not, but as soon as I turn that truck on, I lose it all. The problem is coming through the antenna as when I unhook it I lose the noise, im guessing its some sort of magnetic interference from the alternator, the antennas sittin square on the roof. Wonderin if any of you guys have a clue how to get rid of this nonsense.

Thanks

your cb and antenna both have to be grounded. you will want to make your ground wire as short as possible for the cb or you will pick up motor noise. The antena should still be gounded also. what happens is if you have good paint or have clear coat it will keep the antena from grounding. I know this from experience. i was using a magnet mount one time and put the mic up to my mouth to talk and go the s**t shocked out of me.

This should not make a difference whether your motor is running or not but have you checked your swr's with a meter?

The ground on the CB is running up to one of the bolts under the dash its not a super long cable and it basicaly just runs up the transmission hump, its is not the only thing grounded there though, (my fog lights and unknown factory ground) and the power is hooked into a fuse... cant remember which one right now a 30 amp that is always hot.. The antenna cable is running through the bottom of the door under the body up the side of the rear glass sill to the antenna. I havnt checked anything, I just know that the noises is only there when I have the engine running. Any ideas how to get a good ground on the antenna?.

Put any 25 Volt electrolytic capacitor between (+) and (-) of a CB Radio unit. That will prevent radio from getting engine running noise through it's power supply input. The other way is to replace the ignition wires and plugs - that should help with high frequency interference.
