Are you referring to a specific brand or just catch cans in general? Also what do you mean by "work"? What benefit are you expecting to get from a catch can?

Your expectation will determine the answer.

I have a JDM on my 2013 5.0 Lariat. It does get 1/3 to 1/2 full between 5k mile oil changes. No real towing/hauling. Mixed city highway driving. No noticeable performance gains.

Yes catch cans "work". They will collect blow by. I have it in my sports car. The giant debate is weather it's necessary. You could spend days reading the various opinions and still be confused.

Old engines used to vent the blow by to the ground. Obviously this is not very environmentally friendly so over the years this changed to direct the pressure back to the intake to be burned with the air. There is some evidence ion some vehicles that this blow by puts deposits in the throttle body and intake components. Seeming that blow by oil collect in the can is psychologically satisfying I admit!

Engineering has become so good however that I suspect that the crankcase blow by is no longer a real issue for long term performance that it once was to warrant the expense and hassle of a catch can. A catch can can't hurt on the f150. Does it provide benefits that's the debate. I doubt I will add one. I'm sure others have opinions as well.

See what I wrote above.

This is debatable. Multiple threads on this subject. Multiple opinions. Google and read and decide for yourself.

I am of the opinion that in our trucks the engineering is so good that a catch can is likely a waste of money. And yes I have installed them on other cars. There are 5 million ecoboost engines without catch cans and they run fine. It is a nice placebo effect to empty the oil out of it. I doubt it will hurt. Others have many more opinions.

I did a lot of my own research on catch cans before buying my 2.7...

RunningW - your 2 posts make for maybe the most succinct, fair and logical summary of catch cans for the f150 I have seen yet. Totally agree

I ran one in my 2011 Mustang. It captured just over a teaspoon of oil a month. Capturing it in the catch can kept it from getting to the throttle body plate; over time, the oil mist will coat the throttle body plate, requiring it to be removed and cleaned.

So, is the easy cost of removing the throttle body and cleaning it better then purchasing and installing a catch can? Only the person owning the vehicle can decide based on their willingness to perform the cleaning once in awhile.
