This wacko scheme is just another in a long list of unconstitutional activities by our benevolent and protective federal government that is designed to impoverish the "common" people....if you want an idea about what's going on, read George Orwells, "1984"....spells out the whole scenario in a book that is in fact fiction....but, hey, we must want it all; we put 'em in office.

WTF?????

Us taxpayers are gonna give $4,500.00 to somebody that trades in their CLUNKER for a vehicle that gets better gas mileage.......

These MORONS don't have a CLUE!
How many MILES do you think it would take to make up the $4,500.00 in fuel savings for a car that gets 2 or 3 MPG more than a CLUNKER?

And according to the news, they've alloted 1,000,000,000.00 (1 BILLION) for this DUMB-***** program and it's already surpassed that amount!
Why don't we just make DIRECT-DEPOSITS to the US TREASURY.......... that's what OBAMA wants so he can give it to ACORN!
*****HOLES!!!!!

The program wasn't shut down because it didn't work. It was suspended because all the money allocated for the program has been used, in a week. The govt expected it to last until about November 1 but car buyers went through all the money a LOT faster. Using the higher amount of $4500 that would mean 220,000 cars were sold in a week. That's pretty damn good.

The program was designed 1) to help the EPA get older gas guzzlers off the road and 2) get the auto industry moving again by getting people who wouldn't normally be buying a new car right now out shopping. It definitely did both of those things, but I thought it was too narrowly focused.

My biggest concern for the program is that it will end up just being another handout to the auto industry and do nothing to help the workers. If the money made on those ±220,000 vehicles ends up in the hands of auto workers, that's great. They are the ones who will spend the money on other goods and services which will help stimulate the economy overall. My feeling is that the money will unfortunately end up in the hands of the CEOs and corporate types who won't let it "trickle" down, which means we just handed a bunch of millionaires a bunch more money.

A big problem with the program was pointed out by auto re-cyclers. The cars and trucks used to get the 4500 are scrapped. This can cause shortages of used engines, engines available for rebuilding, transmissions etc. The idea was to get rid of some of the tremendous glut of good used cars and trucks that are suppressing the sales of new vehicals. Sorry I like my truck and will keep it, not having truck payments has a charm all of it's own.

You are correct........the money goes in the pockets of the car dealers to alleviate the GLUT of overstocked cars sitting on their lots!
THAT DOES NOT mean they will order another 50 new cars because 50 new cars just went out the door....although many car dealers will be ordering more new vehicles ..that just "lightened" the load for the car dealer.....they don't pay the "floor-plan" interest on those 50 cars any longer.......
Do you think the car dealer wants to order another 50 new cars, be OVERSTOCKED again, and pay that "floor-plan" interest they can't afford to pay? I don't think so.............although this CLUNKER program is picking up speed and Congress just approved an additional 2 BILLION.
My brother just called, he's on his way to a new car dealer to get $3500 CLUNKER REBATE and a $3500 DODGE REBATE............(I tried to convince him to go FORD)
There are exceptions, of course, the FORD FUSION is BACK-ORDERED to the FACTORY due to selling out large numbers of this vehicle.........
so once again, FORD continues its SUCCESS! GO FORD!

again.....just some thoughts from a "past" car dealer.
