So, I called a locksmith who got me in, dead battery. Fobs and door code now work, but the manual key option still doesn't work, so now that's my last problem. The keys turn L/R, but the lock doesn't respond. Do I have a linkage problem inside the door panel? Ideas?

Why didn't you have the lock smith look at it while he was there??

Pretty sure you have to pull the interior panel to get to the lock mechanism. I wouldn't want a locksmith to do it.

This makes me wonder if someone actually tried to steal his truck while he was away, and subsequently buggered the lock trying to get in.

That's entirely possible.

I just had my 14 door handles off, getting the door panels off is easy. And there are plastic clips that secure the linkage rods from handle to door latch, and or lock cylinder to latch. I felt they were pretty stout for plastic. But cold weather and age could take their toll on those.

Or if the latch is somehow really gummed up, the weakest link would be those clips. Couldn't have broken on the previous owner?
