Can an Isolator kill an Alternator?
I'm wanting to set up a dual battery system in my truck. but before i start working or buying anything i want to know;
Since the isolator is basically charging two batteries wouldn't kill the alternator?(keep in mind i'm 17 and not an expert at this i'm just confused at this piont. the more research i do the more confused i get.)
Actually in anyway if i used an isolator would it at all destroy my alternator over time

there is a cool system for dual battery set ups it charges the main one normaly and keeps the secondary one on stand by drawing from both of them and charges the one that needs it at the time. its about 150 bucks but if your going to put 42 lights i think it was you will need (depending on the wattage per light) 2+ battery and high output alternators for sure.
I have to ask this why so many lights on one truck? i have just 2 small 55 watt lights and they light up the night air great with my high beams on. i do plan on upgrading to some rugged 100watt daylights or something like that then using the ones i have now as the reverse light.
adding that many lights is going to rewire tons of wiring. the 2 i have has one running to the switch red power to the fuse box from the switch ground to switch then 2 grounds from the lights to the bumper. your going to need a separate fuse box for the lights alone LOL

whats the system your talking about?
and there not regular lights, i'm putting 4 LED lights on the interior, neon on the four sides (front, rear end, driver side, and passenger side). i have strobe lights inside my air conditioning vents and in my headlights, fog lights and two pair in each tail light. I'm also getting around (5to 7) V2 LED scanners to place around my truck.
i'm still questioning if i'm getting LED lights on on my wheel wells
I also have tinted tail lights in which the previous owner darkened to much that i can barely see my back up lights. and as an added bonus he had the back window darkened so much that i hardly see out of it at night. So to help fix my problem with that i'm setting up three or four KC lights somewhere on the underniether kab of my truck
i feel all those lights are two much for one battery and to much for possibly two but it that my main concern befroe i start working on anything is that even with an isolator and an upgraded alternator, will the alternator go bad over a short period of time???

I like to show off by going off the road. remember its all about the details when it comes to any show car or truck.

i've read that paralleling them will just drain both of my batteries and ruin my alternator but i do also plan in the future to upgrade the system i have in my truck.
I had three differnet lights already set up to my main battery and both batteries went bad within a year and the third one might be coming up upon me too.
My plan is too upgrade my alternator, replace the current battery i have now and set up the dual conection with it using an isolator. i will most likely change my power and ground wire thats alredy hooked to my current battery too.
