the first pic is what I would call a "cap" and the second pic is a "camper."

They're called truck caps or camper shells here. I call them caps myself

I grew up in southern Indiana. It was a topper.
Now I live in the mid atlantic, its a cap.

Here in Oregon I've always called those a canopy in fact I just got me a nice used aluminum "canopy " for my F150 off Craigs for $100...a camper has a fridge/icebox and a bed,etc...I call a cap one of those flat fiberglass tonneau covers I guess...
