cam phazers
Hi I had my cam phazers replaced last july and my left side went again a month ago and ford tells me that becaus it was done under warrenty they only cover it for 3 mts or 5000 klm and now wont do anything about it , has anyone had this problem? or any sugestions on how to deal with ford?
I have been raising hell, now they are telling me that because i didn't use ford oil filters there might be a problem with warranty, and also any of the quick lube places are not qualified to do oil changes. they asked me if there was anything else they could do, so I asked for directions to the nearest Chev dealer. now Im dealing with ford canada, Ill keep you posted
This is what they are reading:

21049 1997-2010 multiple vehicle - 4.6l/5.4l - engine ticking and/or rattle noise
multiple vehicle lines with 4.6l or 5.4l engine may experience an engine ticking or rattle noise that sounds like a stuck tappet (hla). This
may be due to the deterioration of an aftermarket oil filter. Vehicles with this condition have low oil pressure at one cylinder head
only, while main pressures are normal. Dislodged material from the aftermarket oil filter blocks the cam cap oil passage, either at
cylinder #4 (right bank rear) or cylinder #5 (left bank front). For vct equipped engines, inspect the vct valve body and the oil passages
under the first cam cap. Damage to engines caused by aftermarket oil filters are not covered under warranty.

Now, only certain filters will do this, and they can't deny your claim without proving that the bad after market filter caused the problem.

I have a cam phaser question. My truck is kocking and sounding like a diesel at start up and while driving. When the truck has been driving for about 30 minutes it wants to die at idle. The dealer said it was a cam phaser. I watched the ford training video and they mention nothing about dying at idle. I had a fuel injector flush also, so they are clean. Is this a phaser problem?
I didn't experience that problem the first time mine went but the second time it was almost as if you advanced a distributer cap a half turn and it was the left side that failed this time, hopefully thats all thats wrong. Thanks for all your replies and information. I was on a site called lemonade.com and it look like I might have to get a lawyer involved, hopefully thats not the case.
