Cab Exchange
I just recently bought a 1995 f150. It has a beat up bed but the cab is in perfect condition. I wanna put the 1995 cab on my 1985 f150 because it has a nice bed but a messed up cab. i thought about swapping beds but some idiot welded the bed onto the chassis on the '95. I think the cabs will match up because 7th and 9th gen f150s both have the same chassis. How would you go about taking off the 9th gen cab and putting it on the 7th gen chassis? Im new to trucks and would appreciate all the help i can get

Youve got many variables here. Engines in both trucks, trannys, 2wd or 4wd. xl, xlt. All that stuff. If its an exactly identical model it will be easy. But if not, the wiring is going to be different and youll have to change alot. I would tell you to try and cut the bed off and swap beds, it will still be easier than swapping cabs, or go get a bed from s junkyard and sell the truck you dont want. It will be easier than swapping cabs.
They are both automatic 4x4 and they both have the standard XL package if that helps. The 95 has a fuel injected 300 straight 6 and the 85 has a 351. Also the 95 is a long bed and the 85 is a short bed which is another reason i couldnt just swap beds

So, your going to need to save the wiring out of the **** cab and install it in the new cab. Or you will run into problems there. The gauges are different, im pretty sure the striaght 6 doesnt have a tach, so you need to fix that, amd if one of em is push button 4x4 and the ither is manual you need to solve that, and since the trannys are different i think the t-case is different. Bunh if small stuff is what its going to be. Alot of stuff to go wrong. Remember, the junkyard is your friend.

To the OP. Whats wrong with the cab?
Are you sure you want to do this?
Take LOTS of pictures. It will save you when putting back together
Take a cardboard box and stab all of your interior screws into them and mark them.
If you stay organized and calm it will just require lots of patience.
