A/C vs. MAX A/C
#31
I'm not sure why but some people don't want their AC to recirculate sometimes. I don't know if they think the fresh air is better or what, but that's what they want. Personally I always have my AC on MAX so it will recirculate, for reasons like BCMIF150 said, people burn stuff and there's a lot of farms and a few chicken coops. If you've never smelled chicken crap you're really missing out...
The option is there because some people want it to recirculate and some don't, that's pretty much it.

my 11 has ac, max ac, and recirculate. Like stated before, with max ac on, the reg ac button is illuminated, and same with the recirculated button. BUT, when i have reg ac on, i can turn recirculation on LOL. I just gave up on trying to figure it out.

Let me resurrect this old thread to ask if there's a difference in using Max AC or just running the AC and pressing the recirc button? Over here finger banging my dash

Consult your owner's manual, the functions should be described there.

Mine doesn't seem to do a good job of keeping out outside smells though. I always operate with recirculate on. I rarely hit the MAX AC button because it revs the fan up to full speed and turns the temp to LO. Then I have to manually readjust my temperature and fan speed.

Sure they can. My '15 Explorer with the DATC system has both.
Older vehicles with manual systems wouldn't be expected to have both since the MAX function is what activates recirc. However, the newer automatic systems have a lot of software built in that changes the old ways of how things work. That's why I directed him to his owners manual.
