A/c problems
I have a 1997 5.0 ford explorer that the clutches on the air condition stay on. Could this be the high pressure switch causing the problem. I own 3 fords with over 200000 miles non them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jamie
Clutch control pressure switch bad. Compressor worn out. System overcharged with R134A.
Put an AC guage set on the system and see what the pressures are. The pressures without the AC running should be 80-90psi.
Run engine at a fast idle and turn to Max AC / 60 degrees, doors closed, max blower. Register discharge temperature should be ~50 degrees. Low side pressure should be cycling between ~27psi and ~47psi. High side should be over 180psi.
If low side pressure is less than ~27psi and the clutch is still engaged, the pressure switch is not working. If pressure won't pull down to 27psi and the high side pressure is over 200psi, the system is overcharged.
If the pressure won't pull down to 27psi and the high side pressure is under 150, the compressor seals have gone bad.
