Brake controller
I self installed the custom Ford controller, then took my truck to the dealer to activate it. I then hooked it up to my trailer and applied the brakes. I see no indication on the controller to tell me the trailer brakes are working. Am I doing something wrong?
I installed one myself too, I havent had a chance to get down there and get it flashed yet.............. so I cant really answer your question. But if you look in your manual I think it might tell you. I know you can "adjust" the brakes up on the trailer using the buttons on the controler. Look at it and you will see three buttons, two of them have a plus and a minus on them. Poke one of them and see if it does something on the dash menu. XLTdoug.
i dont have one but my dad has one on his excursion, never really looked at whether theres an active light or not but if you turn the pressure up on the controller up you should be able to notice the trailer stopping easier. idk how big your trailer is but ours is pretty big and i can tell when he adjusts the pressure on the controller.
Thanks XLT, yes I see the buttons. On my GM a light came on when I touched the brake to tell me something was happening back there. Here nothing. There is an indication on the dash to tell me how much pressure I have set but don't know if its going to the brakes. Don't want to find out the hard way that nothing is going on back there.
When you press the pedal, or slide the lever - the display on the instrument panel shows the output. If you want an easy check - with the trailer connected, put the truck in drive and slide the lever all the way to the left. The trailer will stop the truck...
