damn it, beat me to it!

i'd say there are many things you can do that when all added together help. Tune, intake, exhaust, the right tires (also the correct pressure). But number one thing is going to be you!

Have to agree with the other two. Pretending there is an egg between your gas pedal and the floor when accelerating is a big help. Try to keep your rpms under 2000 when accelerating. Take your time getting up to speed

Biggest increase in mpg will be how you drive. Good general maintenance helps.

Adding performance mods will take forever to pay itself back from minimal MPG gains. The best things to do that are cheap would be driving like grandma, religious maintenance, and maybe the Gotts mod and cleaning the MAF sensor.

I found that inflating the tires to the maximum pressure or even 10 percent more is the biggest boost to mileage.

When I inflated my tires to 45 pounds (the maximum pressure recommended), I gained over 2 mpg.

I drove my 2010 with the 4.6 V8 on a trip from Ohio to the west coast to the Grand Canyon and back, a distance of 6500 miles and averaged 18,6 mpg.

This was mileage figured on paper, not the in truck gauge which is usually 1 to 2 mpg more than actual. I have every tank on my truck figured on paper since it was new and I have 56,000 miles on it now.

Get a ScanGuage II. It has instant MPG readout (among many other things), will display up to 4 items at once; I did MPH, MPG, RPM and Intake Air Temp since my truck didn't have an outside air gauge. It will also scan for codes.
Watching the instant MPG readout teaches you that you can often let up on the gas slightly and maintain the same speed. Over time, it can really change your driving style for better MPG.
The biggest help by far is to drive as if you had weak brakes. Let off on gas when you see reduced speed signs, coast to stop lights and signs, within reasonable safety limits coast downhills without riding brakes, etc. Every time you use your brakes, you throw away all the energy used to get up to speed.
