"Standard" tire size?
Hello. I saw a topic on a different forum where somebody was asking for help reprogramming the tire size in the truck computer. He didn't like the 265/60R18 tires that came on his '16 Lariat and swapped them out for "standard" 275/65R18 tire.
I'm planning to replace my Michelin OEM Energy Saver LTX with Defender LTX M/S to get a tire with an LT rating. I don't want to change wheels. They're not available in 265/60R18 but are available in 265/70R18, a minor difference. I'll have to reprogram the tire size but I can do that myself.
Since I have to change sizes to get an LT rating, I'm interested to hear the origin of the term "standard" with respect to light truck tires. Is that a common size on basic work pickups? Is it more common in terms of tire availability than the 265/60 or 265/70?
Thanks in advance.

Different trims have a different standard.. far as I know 30.5 to 32 is most common.
3 ways to change your speedometer that I know of
Find a cool dealer that will do it. Buy a tuner or speedometer calibrator...200 to 600 bucks, or free with forscan .
I found forscan to be most exact between the 3 and I've tried them all..they were very close, but not spot on like forscan

I'm using 265/70/18's. They are 1/2" narrower and 1/2" taller than the factory 275/60/18's that came on my 4X4 truck. I think 4X2's come with 265/60/18's. I don't think there will be a enough difference to worry about re-programming.
Standard is the wrong word. Factory is better, and Ford trucks offer several options as to tire size. Chevy, Dodge, and everyone else uses different sizes as "standard" equipment today.
Things used to be a lot simpler years ago. Most 3/4 tons came with 7.50/16's and half tons with 7.00/15's.
