Bedrug quality and a question
So, after a lot of review reading and post reading, I decided that the best bedliner for me would be a BedRug. Spray ins are nice and drop ins are ok, but my aging knees really like the idea of padding. Since I'm not intending to drop a front loader's worth of concrete blocks in the bed
, I think this will be fine.
Problem is that I ordered one from Amazon. When it arrived, there was a noticeable surface defect along one of the velcro strips. Also, the top edge of the side panels was very ragged and uneven. I called Bedrug and they suggested I return it.
So I returned it and re-ordered. (Thank you, Amazon, for the free shipping!) The new one came and had the same ragged edge on the side panels. Maybe this is normal. After all, it tucks up under the side of the bed and probably wouldn't be noticeable. What can't be considered normal, though, is the gap in the seam where the side panel meets the front panel! I can put my hand through it. It was never sewn in that area at all. I called Bedrug again asking if I could send it direct to them for a replacement and customer service, while very pleasant, said that their deal with Amazon states that Amazon has to do the return. Back to Amazon it goes.
Not as important but I also noticed that the instructions say there are indicators showing where to position the velcro pieces, but I couldn't find them on either of my samples. Do you just space them out or do I need special 3-D glasses to see them?
I really want one of these. I dry-fitted this one and it looks great in my bed. But after getting two defective ones in a row I have to ask if their quality is slipping or if I just hit the luck of the draw? Twice.
And my question: Since I dry-fitted it I noticed that it seems I wouldn't need the velcro strips at all except for the ones at and around the tailgate. (And maybe the top of the front edge.) It fits so snugly that I'm not sure what purpose all the other ones serve. Anyone take a shortcut on the installation and not put 40+ pieces of velcro around their bed?
(Mods: If this should have gone in a different area, please feel free to move it--like you need my permission--I found quite a few Bedrug threads in here, though, and it's where I usually end up.)

Hi Lare,
If I were you, i`d just send it back to Amazon and order direct from BedRug or a company like Auto Anything or Real Truck.com.
Or, if you`re interested, order the Ford version from a Ford Dealership. It actually has the Ford name on it instead of BedRug and yes, the warranty is the same.
Go to the Ford accessories website and price it from various dealers in your area.
I found it here at a dealership for less than the average price i`ve seen which is around 398.00
I`d use all of the velcro provided because if you don`t have a Tonneau, more than likely wind will get under it while you`re driving and lift it up.
Good luck to you.

Top edge on the sides are not hemmed as they are hidden under the bed rails...
I have rarely seen a Bedrug in all my years as a dealer that had any issues... Makes me wonder if Amazon is getting seconds or something?
The indicators for the the velcro aren't hard to miss... they are just little lines about an inch long stamped into the back of the rug... Look VERY closely or you will miss them. But you can just evenly space the velcro out... just make sure the tape side is contacting the bed as you do the install.
Let me know if I can help further or send you a price (I bet its better than Amazon)...lol

truckalter,
I totally agree with you about Amazon.
Those BedRugs just might be seconds, B-stock, or fake.
As much of a problem that Amazon has had of late with counterfeit products, I wouldn`t be surprised.
Buyer beware.

Lare,
I have a tonneau cover.
Installed my BedRug with only the velcro around the tailgate opening and on the tailgate. The sides and front all stand up and stay in place just fine.
With the tonneau cover off the truck, I place a toolbox or other weight up front to keep the BedRug from blowing out.
Very happy with the BedRug.

I've had a Bedrug for a few years now and while I don't regret buying it, it has some issues after being exposed to the elements. The velcro strips don't hold for sh** anymore. Mine flew out of my empty bed on the highway one day. It was quite an adventure retrieving it. I keep a small sandbag in the bed at all times now to hold it down when I'm not hauling anything.
Also one edge of mine started splitting--the top felt layer is separating from the main padding. It's not an issue and thankfully the entire layer isn't coming off, but it's a letdown to see that happening.
I also thought the tailgate mat was garbage and I never liked the mounting method - a few of the bonding tape strips deteriorated and the corner of the mat wouldn't stay attached to the tailgate and was just flopping around. I eventually ditched it and got a regular tailgate liner.
If you have a tonneau or shell these are non-issues and you'll be very happy. If not, then watch out.

Did you cut holes so you could attach the bed hooks/tie-down points? That would keep the product from flying out.

I bought one of these, couldn't be happier. The tailgate protector is separate and runs the price up to a bit over $100.

Thanks for all the good information, guys.

Exactly what I did. I returned it and called Auto Anything. They even matched the price. I've had good luck with them in the past and am not sure why I didn't think of them first. (Well, it's because I'm using up my Amazon gift cards still.)
I wondered that too. It will be interesting to see how my next one compares.
Nothing personal, truckalter, but I'd already ordered before I saw your post. D'oh!
Thank you. I have a shell on most of the time, but to be honest, I hadn't thought about the possibility of an un-Velcro'd liner flying away until it was pointed it out in this thread.
Again, thanks everyone.
