Bedcovers?
Believe they did a Mythbusters episode on this very topic. I don't remember exactly, but seem to recall the testers didn't see any increase in MPG's with a cover on the bed. The best result came from a mesh tailgate. Enjoy...

It's generally made of wide webbing material. They are pretty cheap and you used to see a lot more of them around some years back. I rarely see them these days.
There are also some made of steel for commercial applications. Air flows through them as well.

No I do not think it does. At least for me I can't tell any difference. The fuel economy was about the same before and after mounting the Bak Flip F1.
I hope nobody buys a bed cover thinking it will improve fuel mileage and for that reason only.

If I remember that episode correctly, they were testing tailgate up vs tailgate down, and found the gas mileage was better with it up by a good margin. This test did not include a bed cover so I don't know if it will help or not. I frequently put stuff in and out of the bed of my truck so a cover would just be a PITA.

seriously big heavy trucks eat gas. Driving slower is the only thing I have found to make a significant difference on mpg.
