Different bell housing, mates a modular ford.

You turn a few things off in the pcm, like setting your neutral safty swich, and a couple others still researching both.

Yeah the 460's been the motor I've wanted from day one.

But, I just got to thinking, I'm going built this year so I'll have a spare 5.4 s/c

I guess I've come to the conclusion I'll just slap the 5.4 in until I have all the bolt ons needed to make the 460 like aftermarket parts!

Anybody else have a response on which motor you would want in your truck...

I've always wanted a 460, but for an older truck. I'd want the 5.4 supercharged if I had a 97+.

A half ton can handle a 5.4 alot better than a 460 and can probably make the same power. A 460 is a heavy motor that belongs in a dump truck.
Really even a 351 can make the same power or more power than a 460 anyway. Ive seen it with Mustangs.

Also why no overdrive? That will get old quick on the highway.

Good guys keep the responses coming.

Yes ive seen crazy numbers produced with 351's and more impressive times, with my fellow Gen1 Lightning brothers. But about the more part, i just think its how deep peoples pockets are, and mine aren't that deep. haha

5.4 s/c ......350hp/470tq with a 20-30% drivetrain loss. In my harley 415/520 rwhp

460..... 250/400, but i think the BB is going to have great potential.

I Will be putting a 200 shot on it soon as it goes together, if i go 460, strokers are cheap for it, might go turbo down the road.

If i stay 5.4 I'll keep it alone.

Stroked and bored 351 with a s/c...

I know it is not on your list but it can be the best of both worlds. You can get into the 420's with the cubic inches and you can efi it fairly easy... If you need to go the cheaper route for now you can go with the stoked/bored/carbed setup and add efi and s/c later, just build a solid base to begin with...

Remember the old adage, how fast do you want to go=how much do you want to pay

^^^ True... i was playin around with the idea of a turbo'd 4.6 but decided against it for the tq isue's.

Personally wouldn't even be asking this question if i weren't gonna have a spare 5.4 that is bolt in, and easier to get inspected. In case i want to go to the grocery store in it.

But I'm gonna stick with these choices, I have a ton of guys/friends wanting me to go cummins, or powerstroke, but i just can't pull myself to redline at 3,000 rpm's in the mud.

As far as the O/D ? i would rather have a strong tranny with no O/D then to have O/D and go through 4r100's like there for 6cyl. Plus I'll be in the mud a majority of the time, its not a DD.
