I was at Chevy dealer not too long ago with a buddy of mine who was thinking about getting into a rcsb 4.3L v6 Silverado.
I insisted that they are gutless and worse on gas then a 5.3L V8. But he was dead set on looking at one.
His mind changed pretty damn quick when he saw the EPA gives the 4.3L 2wd (195 hp) 10L/100km hwy and the 5.3L 4wd (315 hp) 9.4L/100km hwy.
This shows perfectly what is wrong with GMC trucks in my mind. They don't offer the consumer a fuel savings with their base engine. Part of the reason a customer wants to go with a smaller engine is an increase in mileage (even if it is small).
Fords 3.7L 2wd makes 302hp and gets 8.9L/100km hwy. Hell my 5.0 2wd is rated at 9.8L/100km hwy and it makes 165hp more then the 4.3L.
My buddy ended up getting a really good deal on a slightly used 2010 ranger with a 4.0L 5 speed and loves it.
I've heard whispers that GMC will offer new engines for 2014, whether or not they are new designs or just merely refreshed vortecs will be interesting to see.

The new generations are coming fellas. Everyone, including gm, knows they are behind the curve.

I hope they have serious power numbers. Then when ford does their redesign they will just get better
