IDS = Integrated Diagnostic Software, the stuff the dealer uses to fix today's vehicles, it is used with a computer interface for programming the vehicles.

The hardware to utilize IDS isn't cheap by any measure. Paid $1,500.00 for mine + $700/yr for the license.

If you wish to own the system yourself look on ebay for Ford VCMII, cheaper than buying from manufacturer.

This is what I have.

So turn it to the 3rd position and your issue is solved.

P.S. I think your are confusing day time running lights with auto lamps, and yes it can be turned on 13+ trucks, unfortunately it has to be activated by the dealer or someone that has IDS.

I'm not splitting hairs and I do hear that annoyingly loud chime.

Point is, I want to turn the switch to the ON position and never have to touch it again but the system isn't smart enough for that.

Done.

BTW. You can get DRL activated and don't need to use the headlights all the time. I haven't turned a headlight **** since 2004.
I'll have to investigate tricking the sensor because I don't think DRL can even do what I want.

How does one "activate" DRL? The manual was of no help.

What are you wanting? DRL are basically driving lights that are on when headlights are off so that other drivers see you better. If the headlights are off, drl can be set to always be on with the switch on the auto setting. On auto, the light sensor switches from drl to headlights for you when dark.

From the drivers seat you will never know unless pulling up to a mirror. If you are worried about visibility to other drivers DRL was designed for that and is just as good as headlights.

I'm gonna try that. I'm thinking I can just cover it up and not even have to pop it out. If it works I can make it more permanent.

Thanks all, I'll let you know the outcome.

DRL is not just as good as headlights. In some states headlights are required when it's raining and DRL won't always do that.

From my window sticker.

Notice it says AUTO ON/OFF HDLMP

What I want is AUTO OFF HDLMP without the AUTO ON part.

How does DRL work? The manual isn't clear.

And what does this excerpt from the manual mean?

When I bought my Toyota Tacoma back in '03...I noticed on the window sticker there was a $50 option added. It was DRL.

They were turned on at the factory...and 50 bucks was added to the window sticker.

Every post you make is about how you dis-like something on your new truck. Did you do any research on 2014's before you bought one?
