Default ATV fluid in crankcase

I have just bought a used 2.7 Ecoboost with 130k miles, but I want to clean out the crankcase and like with my v8's, use almost a quart of *ATF* (corrected) fluid for about 50 miles; would that negatively effect the twin turbos?

what is atv fluid?

if anything, I would run Valvoline Restore and Protect for 2-3 changes

Do you mean ATF? I haven't heard of negative effects, but I also don't know that it's been tried much yet. If I want to clean it up, I'd use a little sea foam for a heat cycle and then change. And change my oil every 2-3k instead of 5k for a few intervals. Itll clean up alright that way.

why do you think the crankcase needs cleaned up? Boroscope? Or just mileage? If its just mileage, dont worry about it. New synthetic oils don't gunk up nearly as much and you're risking your bearing for nothing

Agree with todays engines the new oils do not gunk up like the old oils did.. Use a good synthetic and it will clean out what little their may be in their. Last engine i looked at that i ran synthetic in all the time was spotless.. With the turbos and such you do not want to be diluting the oils with cleaners or ATF good way to take out the bearings since they run so hot

Don't worry about a little ATF in the crankcase. Its often used to clean up gummed engines. Change oil, filter, stop any more ATF entering the crank case.

And Drive.

7 replies and only one so far has addressed his question…. specifically asking about potential effects on turbos.

I like that you point it out but didn't answer the question either. Lol EPIC

The atf shouldnt damage your turbos as long as it is a small amount for a short period, just like any other engine component.
