Default Antenna wire missing?

I have had this truck for just under 2 years and finally dealing with the horrible radio reception. if i press SCAN, it just goes through everything and loops and loops and loops and loops. The previous owner said something to me about a plug in the back of the radio.

So this morning, i pulled the cover off everything and the antenna cable was plugged into the back of the radio so i knew that wasn't it..

Looked under the hood, and damn if the wire that plugs into the actually antenna is missing. all i see is the mount under the quarter panel. So the problem is, I have no idea where to search for this wire. Quickly looking around, i haven't found it.

Could someone tell me where this should be coming from? From the radio, through the firewall to where? I believe it is a blue wire because that is what i am seeing from the radio.

Help!! I just got an FM transmitter for my phone and i can not play the station because it is all scratchy due to no wire making it a quiet channel.

You will probably need to install a new antenna mount with the wire. It will usually tun behind the glovebox through the firewall to the antenna.

Still need help and hate asking. I can't find the antenna wire only or a stubby antenna with wire kit.

ended up buying a Hidden Antenna.

Question, anyone with a stock radio, please tune to channel 89.9 and tell me if you hear static or it is clear.

I am trying to use an FM Tuner via Bluetooth to play music from my phone. I hear a bit of static on this station and any others that does not necessarily have a radio channel associated with the station. Understand?

Need help please!

The reason you can't find the antenna wire under the hood is because it is buried between the firewall and the fender well enclosure. It runs into the cab area behind the foot well behind the glove box and over to the radio. This is only one coax wire that is permanently attached to the antenna and has a male barbed fitting on the other end that goes into the radio. It can only be replace as a total unit, starting at the fender hole and ending up behind the radio. Removal of several dash panels, the glove box and the fender well will be required for installation
As why it is not functional, I would guess there is some kind of damage to the wire behind the fender well that may have occurred during or after the lift was installed since this is the only area where it is exposed, outside of the cab. New antennas are fairly inexpensive for a basic unit. Aftermarket ones are about $25.

Thank you so much for this. I figured it was routed the way you described and just as hard to swap out properly. not hard but a big fuss at least.

This is why i bought the Hidden Antenna. I just want to be sure my decision was the right one.

I do not feel like ripping my dash out to install a new, proper antenna.

Furthermore, i am not sure if my stock radio is lacking or it is just the way it is but i really wish i had a clean station to stream my FM Transmitter through. . .

I have an 92 Explorer that never would stream my XM radio, even though the antenna was good. It has a tape deck (lol) that I finally used the XM adaptor and it worked. This same XM unit works fine in my 1970 F-250 wireless. Go figure.
