Air Intake
I have a 2012 FX2 and I was thinking about replacing the OEM air filter with a high performance air intake system. I have looked at a few and was looking for reviews on ones that are being used, are they really worth the 200 dollar or more price tag?

Honestly.... I don't think so. IMO, your money is better spent with a K&N drop-in filter replacement.
I have a CAI, Volant. I like it, but it's not worth the money. Also, some guys have problems with as air flow sensor with some CAI systems which would then require a custom tune. $$$$$ #snowballeffect

It doesn't really increase power to be worth it. I did install the Airaid Jr kit in my truck. It replaces the intake tube with one without all the boxes on it. It also comes with a highflow filter that you install into the stock airbox. It was so noisy i removed the Airaid filter and reinstalled my stock filter.

+1 on the K&N drop in. I had an Airaid, & it was a little noisy & did nothing as far as performance was concerned.
If you change the intake, you will also have to change the exhaust too to get better perf. Which means retuning.$$$$

Until someone can convince me they are an engineer and have more knowledge then the Ford guys that designed your truck, (as a total vehicle), I wouldn't change anything. Horse power is so subjective anyway. On the other hand if you want it to SOUND like it's going faster go for it. lol

Do it for the increased growl or engine bay cosmetics.
Do it for ANY other reason and you're wasting your $$$$$

- 99% of any HP / FtLb / MPG /etc. increases are the result of the usually installed tune (which will set you back another $300-$500 (or more).
. - the OEM air input system is already CAI. *Inlet air is drawn from the fender well and the airbox is sealed to prevent engine bay heated air from being drawn-in.
. - the OEM air input system is MORE than adequite to provide air flow. *CAVEAT: UNLESS ... The engine has been HIGHLY modified. e.g. cams, heads, forced induction (when it was originally NA).
. - ANY CFM increase comes at the expense of air filtration. MEANING: less.
. - oiled air filters may/will/do contaminate the MAF sensor.
