Default air conditioning problem

Every time I have my ac on and I press the gas pedal, the air coming out gets rerouted from its normal dashboard ports to the defroster ports by the windshield. Any idea why this may be happening and what I might have to do to fix it?

Thanks,

I have never heard of that happening. Sounds kinda strange.
Hope someone can help you with the problem.

A vacuum leak will cause this. The HVAC system is set to go to defrost mode as a safety measure in the event of a vacuum leak.

I just checked and you have a 2001 so the leak may be in the vacuum reservoirs behind the battery. Trace the line coming out of the firewall to a T fitting. There should be a line going toward the fender behind the battery. the reservoir is between the battery and the fender attached to the battery tray.

If u have the electronic control head then it is vaccum driven and one of the valve is bad causing it to redirect air flow. u need to replace the contol head and the problem will go away.
