Default Advice needed for move

On Friday I'm going to be moving from Vegas to Madison WI. I'll be towing a 6x12 enclosed trailer full of all my tools, a 3 bedroom house full of furniture (minus beds and couches) and everything else I have left. I will also be putting as much as I can in the bed.

Here's my issue.

My truck is a 2007 4x4 Supercrew with a tow package. I'm a little concerned about how my truck will tow through the mountains west of Denver on I-70. I am running 34" tires on some pretty heavy 20s and haven't been able to swap out my 3.55s for 4.10s or 4.56s yet. Should I be concerned about doing this or am I being overly cautious?

An alternative route would be to drive down to Kingman AZ and take I-40 east to Oklahoma City and stay south of all those crazy mountains. The only issue with this is that it will take a little longer and there is a good possibility that i'll be right in he path of the nasty weather they've got going on down in the south because of the Hurricane.

If there is anyone out there that has made this trip before or has any advice for me, your comments will be greatly appreciated.

About 6k back there. Trailor plus 3 horses. Keep the load over the axles, and don't get in a hurry. I have 4.6l and 3.08 gears. She aint no race car, but she does it.

I'd take the I-40 route. Not much out of the way and makes it a pleasant, easy, stress-free trip. Be sure and have the parkas and ice skates packed on top. It's already winter in WI isn't it? Good luck with the move, it's such a hassle now but will likely be a fond memory out in the future. Enjoy it as much as possible.

I've got the 5.4. I'm mostly worried about the tranny. I read all these threads on here about how its imperative to change your gears if you get bigger wheels and tires. Maybe I'm just paranoid

If you have the original wheels with tires you could always swap them just for the journey

I appreciate all the advice guys. I think I'm gonna take the southern route just to be safe. I'm sure it would be fine through the mountains but at least I'll have the peace of mind that my tranny isn't going to burn up.

You'll be fine, just don't try to race while loaded. Take your time and enjoy the ride.
