The only trigger I would pull on a Tacoma would be one with buckshot in the barrel.

So that would be another 7-8k in incentives and I don't think that's on the table from Ford right now.

So, I'd love to know for my next vehicle purchase how this negotiating is done to this level.
I went into my XLT purchase with X-Plan and Costco Auto available to me. I was told when looking that everyone is selling at X-Plan right now, so the Costco was better. I ended up using neither. I found a dealer with low price guarantee, and I cross shopped the competition. They came down to price match the competition, I ended up somewhere $500-1000 below invoice and about $12500-13000 below MSRP.

You made the right choice, as I said about my tacoma experience those trucks are junk.

I would get another Frontier over a Tacoma any day! The Frontier is a sweet little truck....As far as full size truck I would also look at the 2013-2014 Ram 1500. Probably the best bang for your buck.

OP already bought his truck. He got an F150 FX2.
We will have none of your heresy. You must recant your RAM statement!
No for real though, I agree on the Frontier over Tacoma. But as always, F-150 over both.

I have weighed in an F150/Tacoma/Frontier before myself. The gas mileage comparison was an important factor and helped me lean toward an F150 for my next truck. As the hopes for significantly better mileage would make me lean toward the imported trucks, but their MPG is practically the same. So why not just get a full size truck instead?

I own a Highlander and Sienna and they have been great vehicles with nothing beyond regular oil changes needed. I think if I had to get a Tacoma or Frontier, it would be the older ones as they seem to be built really well. Even the resale value for the older Tacomas is pretty good.

I have absolutely no doubt in the mechanical reliability of the frontier or Tacoma, but they're just so bland and low rent in the interior, IMHO that is.
