12k below MSRP is pretty far below invoice even. I haven't been to many Ford dealers (2 or 3) shopping but none were going to go below x plan with current incentives. x plan is about 4-5k off MSRP on a Lariat. So that would be another 7-8k in incentives and I don't think that's on the table from Ford right now.
So, I'd love to know for my next vehicle purchase how this negotiating is done to this level.

I would get another Frontier over a Tacoma any day! The Frontier is a sweet little truck....As far as full size truck I would also look at the 2013-2014 Ram 1500. Probably the best bang for your buck.

We will have none of your heresy. You must recant your RAM statement!
No for real though, I agree on the Frontier over Tacoma. But as always, F-150 over both.

I have weighed in an F150/Tacoma/Frontier before myself. The gas mileage comparison was an important factor and helped me lean toward an F150 for my next truck. As the hopes for significantly better mileage would make me lean toward the imported trucks, but their MPG is practically the same. So why not just get a full size truck instead?
I own a Highlander and Sienna and they have been great vehicles with nothing beyond regular oil changes needed. I think if I had to get a Tacoma or Frontier, it would be the older ones as they seem to be built really well. Even the resale value for the older Tacomas is pretty good.
