Default '98 F-150 starting problem

My brother's '98 exhibited a first-ever problem. This is a vehicle he keeps at his vacation home and doesn't get driven often. Never has had a problem starting before, but a few weeks ago he tried to start it and it cranked and cranked and cranked and never fired. He didn't have a lot of time to fool with it then, so he left it alone and then tried it again last week. Fired right up, no problem.
He said it was like the fuel pump wasn't working the first time, he never heard the buzz from the tank but then again, he wasn't really listening for it either. He definitely heard the buzz this time when it started.

The truck has around 180K on it, so I suppose a fuel pump problem is not unlikely.
Any other thoughts?

So when vehicles are left to sit for long periods of time the fuel pumps are very comon to lock up. I buy alot of cars for scrap metal and parts thats probly the most comon issue i deal with is the fuel pump will lock up. I usauly keep a rubber mallet bang on the tank a couple of times it frees right up. most of the time. Theres a couple of other things it could be possible the solinoid for the fuel pump is goin bad from sitten so long. definatly if your not hearing the normal buzz then its somthing along those lines of the fuel pump. you can also try turning the key to on the postion then back off and repeat a couple of times that will somtimes free them up as well.
