After changing tie rod ends and idler arm, my steering has a lot of intermitting play. It usually has around 3 inches of play but it sometimes goes to 6 inches of play. Can it be the steering box? Also has around 6 to 8 inched of play when the engine is off.

 

Did you replace the inner tie rods or just the outers?

 

I replaced both
