Default 6.2L or 5.0L?

I bought about 2012 3.5 ecoboost 4 months ago. Fuel is getting into the oil (oil level is continually rising) and the dealerships can't find the issue and won't do anything. Yes, I have had tsb15-0003 done. I'm taking it back to get looked at one more time. If they don't find the issue then I'm seriously considering unloading. I'm looking for something before 30 grand. Probably won't find an f150 6.2 (not a raptor) for that price but it can't hurt to look. What are the issues associated with both the 5.0 and the 6.2? I need to compare and contrast.

I am on my second 6.2l and have had no issues whatsoever! In fact, in all the years that I have owned Fords this is the best motor I have ever had. Lots of power equals lots of fun. I am a V8 guy through and through. With the right exhaust it is also the best sounding motor in the Ford line up for me. It's too bad they stopped putting them in the F-150's. They are so solid and tight. I have never come across any thread complaining about any issues with this motor. If you can get one, I highly recommend it.Good luck.

Agreed. I ordered my '11 Lariat with the 6.2 in Oct. of '10. I was looking for a truck that summer and test drove a lot of them. Even thou I was gonna get an F150, I included a few Dodge and chevy's just for a fair shake. The Ford by far had the better ride, and comfortable interior with a lot of room. The 5.4 was a nice motor and had ample power, but just still didn't feel....I don't know, it was missing something. I went home and did some more research and discovered that the 6.2 would be available in 2011 on some models other than the Raptor. So, I went back to the Dealer and ordered me a 2011 Lariat 4x4 Supercrew with the 6.2 and Max Tow, and 3.73LS rear...Yea Baby!! Only issues have been what some of the F150's have. The slip-bump yoke fixed, battery replaced, camera fixed, and I just upgraded all the rotors and pads. But, that is it. The rest of the truck has been trouble free and the 6.2 is Fabamundo!

The 6.2 is awesome and I have not had any issues. Mine loafs along just fine when not pushed and is almost as quiet as my buddy's Ecoboost. But when you lay the hammer down, the truck has a very raw power feeling to it. Fuel economy is not the greatest as one can expect, but its comparable to my old 5.4/4-speed combo.

I believe you should buy as much power as you can afford. If you can swing the higher initial price and the much lower gas mileage then the 6.2 would get my vote. The 5.0 is a great motor and I love mine but more power is always better especially in a truck.

Also, some sources say to use a higher octane in the 6.2. This might improve the MPG and definitely more power although it will hurt more at the pump because premium is $$$$. I'm going to try the higher octane and see what happens...

I have an 11 Harley Davidson that is awd and it is by far the best truck I have ever driven. Got that truck after I had an ecoboost F150 blow up. Honestly, the 6.2 is a far better all around engine than the ecoboost to me.
Supercrew cab and 4 wheel drive are a must. That's where it's going to hurt the wallet.

Power is good but this is also a daily driver so I could use the MPG. In all honesty though this is all just worst case scenario. I love the turbos on my ecoboost and I honestly think it's going to be just fine. It runs like a dream and it's fast plus good MPG for a truck. I'm just weighing my options just in case it does come to that point of trading up.

When I first purchased my 2013, I decided to go with the 5.0 because it was cheaper than the 6.2. Roughly $5000 cheaper. It got decent mileage and thought it was going to be a keeper for me. Except at 10,000 miles after its oil change, it developed that dreaded "knock"!!! I wasn't going to lose sleep over it and I was pissed off for sure. The next week I ordered a 2014 with the 6.2. I've got 30,000 miles on it now and it actually gets better mileage than the 5.0 did. So happy I crossed the river back then and went for the 6.2. Awesome motor and you'll be hard pressed to find any bad press about then in this forum. There's too many to list on the 5.0. It's a roll of the dice with that engine. Just my .02 worth

The 6.2 gets a bad Rap on Gas Mileage. Because it was the biggest engine available in the F150, some make an assumption that it's a gas hog. And it can be! When driven in a "Spirited" manor, Lol. But if you drive in a "Civil" manor it can do quite good. I've said this many times. I live in Delaware. I own property in Burlington, West Virginia. I go there on a regular basis. It's a 265 mile trip. The first half of the trip is on fairly flat roads with some dips. The last half is thru the mountains in Maryland and WV. When I'm not towing, I usually stay a steady 65mph. I regularly get 19.5-21 mpg, sometimes higher on the more flat roads. Once I get into the mountains of course it drops. The entire trip averages out to about 18.5-19mpg once I'm there. Towing - I have a '12 Polaris Ranger 800HD that I tow in a custom built 7x14 enclosed V-nose trailer. On flat roads I routinely get, and average 11.5-12mpg. In good weather with no cross winds I've done 13-13.8mpg. Just couldn't hit that 14 mark thou, lol. But that's rare. Now of course around town is a whole different animal. Most of my trips/errands around home are less than 20 miles. Those are usually 12-14mpg. In the winter it drops to 10-12mpg. So there is the Monster. The first five pics. are from a weekend trip out to WV, with the first 3 being going out, then the next 2 coming home. The next three are from a trip in which I was towing the Ranger.
