Default 5.4 now what!!??

Vehicle: 08 5.4 f150 w/70K on the clock. Got the dreaded cam-phazer, diesel noise so took it to a repair shop.

They replaced both solenoids. No change. Ford said "7K and we'll replace the motor". Thanks but no thanks. 2nd repair shop (one that I had dealt with before and trusted) replaced the driver's side phazer. Still didn't fix it.

Decided to do it myself. Checked the oil pressure and when it got below 20psi, it started making noise. Just got done taking the timing chain cover off and nothing broken, loose, crudded up with sludge, nothing.

So,...now what? Looking for ideas, suggestions, point in the right direction.

Sorry,

Checked the oil pan first after I had less than 20 psi. Nothing there. No sludge or pieces/parts. The >20 psi came at hot idle, which took awhile to obtain.
I'm using the recommended 5-20 oil and a Moto-craft filter.

While I won't lie, I haven't read all 240 pages of the thread about this problem, but I've read more than half. I posted this here rather than there for more visibility

Post the vin # and I'll check Ford's database for any service bulletins.

So OEM Motorcraft phasers, vct solenoids, timing chain, new guides were all replaced? My next step would be high flow oil pump.

If u got the front cover off - check the chain tensioner seals - a guy posted pics on this forum (somewhere ) showing that seal split and losing oil pressure - making the rattle noise from sloppy chain with no tension

Most will disagree with me here, but I have a 2005 Lariat with the 5.4L. Its been making the same noise for years. I talked to the dealership about it and they said one of their top techs has the same truck. Did the full phaser replacement on it, and 2 weeks later the noise was back. They suggested that I keep the oil changed very regularly and just drive the damn thing. Its been about 5 years now and I have had no loss of power, no hard starts etc..... I use the 5w-30 full synthetic and occasionally I add some oil treatment to that.

Sorry for the slow responses...several 16hr days at work.

RNLCOMP: the vin: 1FTPX14V58FA68017

Techrep: As for a 'born on' date, the registration says 'first registered 2/2008' the info sticker on the driver's door says 'built on 10/07'. As for the COP's, unknown.

Interesting you ask about the build date. This truck has been down for 6 months as I've researched this issue. The truck is my son's. He bought it in NC and I live in AZ.
When this first started, I went to the local parts houses and they guys there had never heard of a solenoid/phaser problem. The local Ford dealer didn't mention it either although one of his guys knew about it. After reading a lot of the posts in the 5.4 phaser thread, I noticed that the people who were having problems all lived in the south and east. So...I wondered if it was a manufacturing problem that occurred at one plant, maybe only 1 shift, because several people on here have the problem re-occur while others only once and most never have the issue. Anyway...

Summer 22: the guides and chains are original. A HP oil pump is a good suggestion. As for the cam journals, haven't checked that way.
