Anyone who asks if they should change plugs at 298k should not be taken to serious.

I haven't read the container, but do you know if we're supposed to use some kind of 'liquifying' fluid around 38K miles? If so, please let me know of a brand you trust and use.

Ma lifetime oil has the consistency of a good grease, so I had to use my spoon (again!) to put it in my new truck's engine.

Probably wouldnt be that bad seeing as like 66-70% of the engines sold are ecoboosts. A handful of NA V6's thrown in and the 5.0 might make up 25% of the sales. I doubt all those 5.0 people would jump ship to another brand so maybe they take a 10% hit.

Not a drop in the bucket, and they wont do it since the already have the 5.0 on the shelf, but its not a big deal.

Here's the fact:

If you think that a small displacement, direct injection, forced induction engine with supplemental vacuum pump, two turbos, timing chains a mile long, intercooler, etc. is going to last longer without repair than a simple tried a true DOHC V8, you're kidding yourself.

The first generation EcoBoost V6 was scrapped after 5 years on the job and redesigned with no shared parts from the original, and for good reason. The warranty claims were getting into Ford's pocket pretty bad, and the PR on the EcoBoost program was taking a hit too.

Now that the issues have mostly been worked out, I'd at least consider a 2018 EcoBoost truck and give it a fair shake. But I wouldn't take a 2011-2015 EcoBoost truck if you offered it to me for free.
But the Ecoboost was newer technology and was bound to have growing pains just like any platform. GTDI tech didnt even really become semi-common until the late 2000's, with Ford being one of the first. Yeah the 5.0 is "tried and true" because its a Ford Modular engine just like the 6.8, 5.8, 5.4, 4.6 etc before it. If you are suggesting that Ford didnt have to fix problems with some of the those engines or make improvements to them to arrive at the 5.0 then you are clearly wrong. They had issues and growing pains over the years and got there eventually with the 5.0 which is a pretty awesome motor.

The moral of the story is that I am glad Ford brought the technology forward and fought through the growing pains and didnt just listen to the V8 people yelling about reliability and only V8's belong in trucks. Some of us(actually it looks like majority of us) arnt afraid to invest in a new tech and are willing to take a small risk for a better tech.

Last point: the new Ecoboost wasnt designed just to fix alleged problems. The new motor was designed from the ground up to outperform and withstand far more power in the Raptor and GT. You have companies claiming 450RWHP and RWTQ from tune only 2017+ non-raptor 3.5's. The heads flow better, the turbos are bigger, everything is built up. To get even close to that on a 11-16 3.5 you are looking at tune, intercooler, full exhaust, intake, possibly meth and to do it well, GT turbos.

Word. Its like a 3:1 sales ratio for ecoboosts to 5.0's. If they were so bad then I think we would have seen sales drop off after 8 model years. No, instead Ford is kicking the crap out of GM and Ram whose entire marketing model is NA V8's. They outsold GM 900k to 800k in half ton sales in 2017, majority of which were Ecoboosts.

Are you counting sales of both Ecoboost engines? Of course when half of your engine choices is one (15 to present) it will sell well.

(Note: Not an Eco hater, just saying because there is always a catch to stats.)

Yup I am a tried and true 5.0 lover (2013 & 2017)...but I did test drive both (2017 3.5 eco with 10 speed and 5.0 with 6 speed) when I bought my most recent truck. In all honestly they both do what they are supposed to and have way more power than 95% of drivers need and both feel great to drive.

I got the 5.0 as that is what they had in the trim/options I wanted, if they would have just had ecos I would have bought that (they didn't have any in my trim).
