5.0 Coyote Remove and Replace
Hi, I jerked the engine on my 2011 F150 with 5.0 coyote (leaky intake valves) at 160,000 miles (had a miss since 135,000). The replacement engine is a 2014 wrecking yard 5.0 with 110,000 miles. Would you replace motor mounts-$350? Alternator-$400? A/C pump-$400? what else? since they are so easy to do while the engine is removed and difficult to do later. Thanks for your advice!
I would definitely replace the water pump (usually about 140 k miles for replacement) & all the tensioners & idler pulleys belts etc. ... Probably wouldn't. be a bad idea to thoroughly inspect your other hoses including the Y hose @ the thermostat area also... Alt. is a little tough to replace later so I would consider that also...(it is about time) .... Anything else is your choice after some inspection?? Rock Auto maybe your friend here for parts (Alt. @ 400 sounds pricey ??)
Thanks! Good reminder on the radiator hoses and Y. I had replaced those twice already on the 160,000 mile motor and the o-rings were leaking again. Plan to replace radiator because it has 160,000 on it and I do most of my driving idling around the farm in the California summer with A/C on. Which is part of the reason the back valves hammered out I think. Want to get a Lightning instead because it would thrive in those conditions, but that takes a big chunk of change.
Does a Rock Auto alternator last as long as Ford OEM? In my experience, I am better off with the 100,000 mile used OEM than with a local NAPA replacement.

Yes, that's most likely what I should have done. The original 2011 engine also uses some oil which is ok but disconcerting considering the known cylinder out of round issue with 2011s. I thought it would be less work to change out the motor than change out heads but by now I'm thinking I was wrong. I am gambling that the 2014 engine will give me another 25,000 miles trouble free driving and let me sell it with a free conscience.
