Looking at the next mod for my truck, kicking around the idea of an intake. I realize on NA vehicles all they really do is add some under hood bling. I do have a tuner with 5* life time tunes. Would an intake be a worthy addition?

Willard5.0 ... Would an intake be a worthy addition?
growl/sound-wise - yes. Performance|MPG-wise - no.

I agree with Joe:
Performance would improve, but mileage would not. Here's some things I've done that may help (mine is an 11 FX4 SCREW with the 5.0, and 3.73):
Fluids: all Royal Purple full synthetic.
Air: switched to an AiRaid SynthMax dry filter (the Ford doesn't like the K&N oil-coated filters; too much engine heat causes the oil to vaporize onto the MAF sensors, which screws up starting and running).
Tires: 5psi over the sticker setting (allows for better mileage and a little less rolling resistance without goofing up the ride).
I also have a cab-high canopy. I have been told that tonneau covers in lieu of a canopy will improve your mileage a bit by improving the airflow over the bed, but I still like having the storage a canopy provides.
With these mods/changes, my 2011 averages a bit over 18.5MPG in town and right at 23MPG at 65 or less on the highway. When towing (6x12 trailer with my Harley inside, extra total weight approx. 1400 lbs), at 65, I still manage right at 19.7. Oh, I usually have about 100-150lbs of crap in the bed). I can't complain at all. I hope this is of some use to you.

Upgrading your intake is worth doing especially if you have or planning to have a new exhaust system.
