Default 4x4 Issue

2014 xlt, 4k miles. I'm having an issue getting out of 4x4. It seems to engage into 4x4 no problem, but when I disengage, the light on my dash will indicate 4x2 but I can feel that the truck is still in 4x4. It will remain in 4x4 for miles, until I turn just right, or hit the right bump and then a loud clank. After the clank, I can feel the truck is now in 4x2.

Thoughts? I did not get an extended warranty, just standard 3yr/36k.

Probably a faulty sensor on the transfer case. Time to take her in....you've got a warranty coverage. Think of it as a spa day for the F150 . :IMO:

I had a problem with mine also. At about 25k miles mine would not come out of 4x4. When trying to come out of 4x4 low, there was a loud buzzing/grinding sound where it wouldn't disengage. Eventually it did after trying several times. I took it in to the dealership and they were able to reproduce it in the parking lot. They kept it for a day and they found the problem to be that a pin that connects the 4x4 motor did not have good contact. After fixing that, they were able to take it in/out of 4x4 low 20+ times before calling me. I haven't had the problem any more. Not the same problem as you, but could be similar fix.

I'll get a case together and sent up to the regional customer service manager for your area, LT1_Hawk. Please send a private message my way with your full name, VIN, servicing dealership, and best daytime contact number. I'll get things moving!
