Default 4WD Hi Issue

While driving home 2nite thru hvy rain I noticed a metal 2 metal scraping noise after going thru some lrg puddles. Thought I'd either run over something or maybe a brake issue. Applied brake and pulkled 2 side shoulder & noise suddenly stopped. several minutes later went to engage 4W Hi and no response. 4 W lo works as normal. My F-150 is a 2006 w/ 36,000 mi. Anyone have any ideas?

Its the 4X4 solonoid which is unfortunatly common. You will need a new one which has been redesigned.

I had the exact problem, lost 4hi but still had 4lo. It was fixed under warranty two years ago so I dont know how big of a job it is.

Do you still have some powertrain warranty? I sure hope so, that would be nice. Good luck

Thanks folks for your input. I did have the problem 2 years ago and also had it repaired under warranty and replaced w/ the new style solenoid & motor. When it happened 2 years ago it was all 4WD function that was lost. I love this vehicle, bought after the lease was up but this is worrisome. I haul & launch a lot of boats. Having this happen on a boat ramp at low tide with a loaded trailer could easily ruin my day. I guess I'll take it to the dealer, thanks again, tda6886
