i understand that the suspension in the 4wd is harder than the 2wd, the 4wd is more tuned for offroad and the 2wd for highway use.
gas mileage 4wd should drink a bit more.
maintenance, just a few parts more to lube inthe 4wd.
if you will stay in highways most of the time, and you live in florida, get a 2wd.... any of the other states that get snow in winter, you better get a 4wd.

My advice, if you are ever going to possibly be driving the truck in snow, get 4wd.
Otherwise, living in Florida, and not going off-road i would suggest the 2wd. 4wd will add weight and complexity that you don't need.
I'm of the type that thinks it's always much better to have and not need that to need and not have...so i would probably still go 4wd down there.

I have had both 4wd and 2wd trucks and SUV's in the past. If you know this truck will ever go offroad and you don't mind paying a little extra now and thru the life of the truck. Go with 4wd. There are tons of people on this Forum that have 2wd trucks and take them offroad. My 2wd ford ranger went all over the place back when I was in highschool. But I got stuck alot. I was always out with buddies who had 4wd and it was easy to pull my light ranger out. Usually we could push it out. But a big F150 is a little harder. This is my advice if you want a sport truck with big rims and low profile tires go 2wd. If you want a beefed up truck with big tires go 4wd. Easy enough. I hope.
you say not go offroad very often and may see seldom ice, what other uses may there be for you? cruising the beach if you live in the south or mountains in the north, boat at boat ramp, camper at campground, etc, all good for 4x4 as said above better to have and not need then the other, with that said i have had both 4x4 and 4x2 for each reason or lack thereof and the truck worked fine. if it will just be a pavement pounder, grocery getter, twice a year mulch for the house get 4x2.
