Default $45,000 truck with a crappy radio? What to do?

I just bought a 2011 F150 Lariat super crew 4x4 and like the truck but I am seriously disappointed in the sound system. I have only had it for a few days but can't seem to get it to sound good as there is only treble and bass adjustments and whatever I do, it still sounds bad. I was so interested in everything else, I didn't pay much attention to the stereo as I assumed it would be a decent one in a expensive package. My Tundra was just a SR5 and it's stereo was 6 speakers JBL standard and sounded nice.

Now what? How would you make it sound better? What have you done?

I feel your pain. The sound system in my 08 Escape (now my wife's) is pretty darn good. The one in my Mustang was absolutely amazing and it wasn't the upgraded one either. I've been wondering myself what I can do to up the sound quality a bit without chopping the hell out of the truck.

Default Kenwood Excelon Upgrade

I put in a Kenwood Excelon XR-4S 120W/4 Amp and 4 Kenwood Excelon 6x8s and I don't need a sub. Don't know how much difference the acoustics are between my SC and the SCREW but I am very pleased. Of course, Sirius sounds better than standard radio but all the digital input stuff sounds very good. I may put a sub in it eventually just to make the sound a little fuller but I am in no hurry.

Anyway, a decent amp and speakers will wake it up nicely. Of course, the kind of music you listen to can matter too. I don't listen to music where the purpose of it is to make the entire vehicle buzz and vibrate.

Just a classic rocker.

For $421.35 I am happy as a clam.

One of the things I like about the new truck is how quiet it is inside.

I don't know if I need much more power but if I could add an EQ that would be nice. I guess I will have to start with new speakers but it would be nice to add a couple small ones higher up like on the dash (I miss the ones on the old truck). It would suck having to replace the whole center piece just to add a better stereo as it has the wood grain and I kind like the SYNC.

I agree . Stereo is crap. I've never been a stereo person
But looks like its time to learn so I can put a new one in.
