Default 4-wheel drive problems

My 2002 F-150 has been in 4WD for a week or so. This morning I took it out of 4WD, as the roads are quite dry. I drove about a mile and all of a sudden it was out of "drive" and I could not move. I fooled around and got it back in some phase of 4WD and got a bit further. I tried to put it in park and it made awful sounds, so I fooled around with the 4WD stick again and it made more awful slounds but I got it in park. I had no reverse. I drove it again a little way and had to jiggle the 4WD stick to get it into drive enough to park it....still no reverse. Yikes! I am so afriad that my transmission is gone or going. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Lisa

Welcome to the board, Lisa. Sorry to hear about your 4x4 problems.
I have not head of this type of problem before, but I think someone here may be able to help with your problem, just give them time to "find" your post and respond to it.

Did you drive your truck on the dry pavement while still engaged in 4WD?
