302 with three dueces?
well on my 93 f150 i got a 4.9l in it right now. and it is burning oil which doesnt bother me, but i bought a 5.0l from a 89 f150 with a zf 5spd trans. i want to build up the engine before i put it in. it basically needs everything new cause exhaust manifold bolts are rusted into the head and the oil pan is rusted. i only paid 200 for both the engine and transmission. i might go from fuel injected down to carburated. what ever i can find for a parts truck. i need wiring harness and stuff. but in summit raacing they have a three dueces kit for the 302 for $2100. everything i will need for the intake has 3 holley 2bbl carbs i think 300cfm center and the 2 outer ones are 350cfm. i am just wondering what would you guys think about three dueces on a truck?
In michigan we don't have inspections or emissions testing, so I would do it in a hearbeat on a truck that wasn't my DD. Build it into a real snort beast.
What are you using the truck for?

Except for looks you do not want to use a six pack set up. There are two ways to set them up progressive mechanical, progressive vacuum. Unless you have the equipment it is a pain in the butt to set these up. My brother builds hotrods so I do have experience with such a setup. What you will end up with is a cantankerous booger of a motor that gets crappy gas mileage, and does not put out much more HP. You are better off with a good 4 barrel carburetor on a matching performance intake manifold with flow tested heads and a proper set of headers. combine this with a bottom end to match and you might expect and easy 350 HP. But as has been pointed will it get past emissions testing. You are also looking at something like 4,000 dollars, or more depending on how much of your own work you can do.
I do have a question for far less then 2200 dollars you can do a full rebuild of that fine 300 CID I6. 128,000 miles is not very many miles for the 300. I have regularly driven examples of this engine with over 300,000 on them. before you throw your money away on the V8 I would seriously look into a overhaul of the I6. Yes I know it is somehow not as glamorous, or sound as good as a nice 5.0L Ford small block V8 but for getting you down the road no matter what that big 6 cylinder is very hard to beat. I am sure other fans of 300/4.9L six will tell you so here.

thats a big waste of money....
you are paying just for the cool factor...which it is but not 2,100.00 worth of cool factor....
for that 2100.00 I would stroke the current 302 to 347 and take the other 900.00 left over and buy a real carb and dizzy and go have some real fun....with header and a few dollars kicked in for real duals...

i do like the 300. its just that i bought th motor(5.0l) with the transmission when i blew up my 300. i put new rings and connecting rod bearings and it still burns oil. i also bought a 86 bronco with the 300 for 450 dollars which it came with no carb cause it needed a rebuild but i had a spare from a motor i bought for 40 dollars. i got it from the same guy i bought the 5.0l from. would a fuel injected 300 be good with a carburated head? the f150 will be a mix of daily driver but more of a weekend truck. the bronco i bought will be my mud truck now. the thing is i want power but i dont want to go buy a new truck. i would like the eco boost f150 tho, i took one for a test drive and man was it nice. but i dont want the loan issue for 5yrs or so. it wont be until spring until i figure out what to do.
In the long run It might be cheaper, and easier to replace the truck there are thousands of F150's of the 1991 to 1996 vintage. Here in Cheyenne there is at least one such truck on every used car lot in Cheyenne. the going rate in my area is 1500 to 3000 dollars for a really nice 4X4. less if purchased from a private party. My choice would be a 1996 F150 this is the last year for the 4.9L I6, 5.0L and 5.4L V8's. It has the OBDII system there are 10th of thousands of them out there. The engine you purchased can be used as a core for a rebuilt engine or you can just sell it, actually the transmission is probably worth more then the engine.

the thing is if i buy another truck that might have problems, and i dont want to deal with loans again. if i rebuild the 302 it would be getting parts here and their. thats kinda why i bought the engine and trans cause the gut wouldnt sell them seperate. then if i rrebuild the 302 i know everything should be good.
now i know fuel injected would be better than carburated but would i have to upgraee the iinjectors if i do a 347? a maitinence guy at my job has a 347 f150, it actually looks exactly like my truck. maybe i shoul steal it
it sitting in a field right now case his liscense is suspened
. he also had a early 90's f150 that had a 390 (stroked 351). but he rolled that one when he was drunk. i might lean more toword the 347 build cause that would be good in front of a zf trans.
also my parents have a ford racing crate motor that has only 19,000 miles on it. they got it in our 88 e150 van that my brother threw a bearing back in 1998. im trying to get it from them

well 302 build here i come. hell of a lot earlier than i expected. my clutch just leeaked out and i went to put more n while i was at work and everything was fine then it just started pissng out on the ground. i was going to replace the clutch slave but couldnt get that line off of the transmission. it not leaing out of the line either. if im going to pull the transmission i mise well replace the engine. i can have the truck sit tho and drce the bronco while i build the 302 up.
