yeah that sucks. It’s a good compromise size.

but out of the 2 sizes you posted the 285/55 would get better mileage than the 33x12.5. The 12.5 is much wider and your rolling resistance would be greater over the 285. Other than that the tire weight is important. I would also think the 33x12.5 weighs more.

I have been doing some research the 285/55r20 come in at about 58 lbs per tire and the 33x12.50r20 come in at about 65 lbs per tire which is a 7 lb difference per tire so would the 33’s be worth the extra weight? Both sizes are almost identical if not identical in price.

It currently has 35x12.50r20 and gas mileage is quite terrible so when it comes time to get new tires I would like to see what your opinions are on these sizes. I’m lowering the size for better mpg and I’m wondering how much of a difference there is in fuel economy between the 285/55r20 and the 33x12.50r20.

I would suggest 295/55R20 (~32.8" x 11.6"). The 12.5" width is that is eating into that gas mpg more than taller tires do. Get an all terrain like a BFG KO2 or Toyo Open Country AT3. The Nitros and other hybrids won't get as good as an traditional all-terrain will. Yes I know those Nittos look the best though.

You obviously like the look of a beefier tire and a 295/55R20 will do just that.

That sound good. So the width of the tire is what really causes mpg to go down?

Tire weight plays the most into gas mpg but both factors play a part. I've always heard wider tires have more rolling resistance. Just providing an alternative to the 33x12.5 as it will still be as tall but be slightly skinnier, and weighing less. It's kind of in between the two if you can't decide on 285/55 or 33"x12.5".

Ok unfortunately the tires I’m looking to get are the venom x/t and they don’t happen to come in that size the 33’s come in at about 65lbs each I’ve considered going with 285/55 which are 58lbs each but I do want to keep some slight stance on the truck rather than having it look almost stock. I know Nittos are very heavy tires so the weight difference alone per tire could help me out if I go with the 33’s. I believe the Nittos it has on now are said to be 78lbs new.
