Default 2018 vs 2016

I am looking at a new 2018 XLT w 302a package + panoramic sunroof. 2.7 v6 RWD. Listed for around 37 and based off of my search thus far I think that is a pretty fair deal.

I am also looking into a 2016 XLT with 19k miles on it that has the same features, but is 4x4 and also comes with a spray in bed liner, navigation and tailgate lift assist. That one is going for 33k.

Both are Blue jean which I admit is not my favorite color, but I feel like the deals are there to be had. Do those seem fair, and which one seems better? I don't see a need here in Georgia for 4x4 (I dont do any offroading), navigation (I have my phone), or tailgate lift assist. I will definitely need a spray in bed liner and i know one can be had after it is bought. It seems like I may have just answered my own question, but I guess the unknown is how 2016s compare to the 2018's performance wise and if there is anything to know about for either? The dealer said the 16 got a recall done for it as the chrome packaged modeled experienced water getting under the chrome door handles? Doesn't seem like anything too worrisome.

Thoughts on the deals and what looks better would be great. Also, any links to some rad blue jean Screws would be helpful as well as it isn't in my top 3 or 4 choices for color, although I do like it (and Ford blue is iconic).

18' with have DI and PI, plus the 10-speed tranny.

16' is just DI with the 6-speed.

If you don't need 4x4 go for the 18 if it's in your budget

$37K - $33K = Only a $4K difference
The '18 is brand spanking new with a warranty and with a Pano roof

The '16 has Nav and 4x4. Same engine as the '18? And any kind of warranty?
+ Tried and true longed debugged 6 speed tranny
+/- Extremely low miles but why was it traded in with those low miles?
- if its an ecoboost, i believe its got direct injection only

If you don't need 4x4 or Nav seems like a no brainer to me. Just my opinion.

By the way if you decide to go the '16 route, i'd definitely check out its CarFax maintenance history

Yeah i have never bought used so I have went into every used car I have had interest in with a ton of skepticism. This was a 2 year lease. He said it is in flawless condition and carfax is clean other than the recall maintenance that needed to be done. I'm one of those people that never goes offroad so I don't think 4x4 is necessary. Thanks for the input and the +/-!

I think you could get get to $30k or under on the '16 if you tried hard enough. Is there more wiggle room in the '18? Not as sure.

FWIW, while I was shopping I noticed the vast majority of '14, '15 and '16 trucks had 20-25K on them. I just assumed they were either off lease vehicles or belonged to people that liked to trade up every couple years.

Also, I just bought my truck and it was listed at $31.8. I think I got a good deal though because they had plain jane '16 XLT's on the lot that were the same price as mine, which is a sport with the FX4 package AND 20" wheel upgrade. They should be able to do better on that '16.

Thank you. 31.8 seems like a fine deal. I am hoping I am able to get him down on the 18 to a lower price. its at 37 right now and hoping there are some other incentives I can get him down with. Being that Memorial Day is a good time to buy a car, do the incentives go up around them or are they set in stone for the month of May?
