how many miles are it? mine was pretty clunky for the first 500 miles or so. Up to 4800 now and its smoothed out a good bit

Mine was similar and a little clunky for the first ~100 miles or so. In time you should find it shifting better and not as much gear hunting. At least that was the case for mine. Just about to 6,000 miles and really enjoying it. The clunky shifts at first really had me concerned but after reading here I found it was nothing to be overly worried about until it's been driven a little.

I have an 18 with 5.0 and 3.55 gears. No issues here.

Ford transmissions are adaptive and have to learn your driving style. It takes time but eventually it'll smooth out.

I also want to add, it's a new truck to you. All the new sounds (or lack of sounds) of a vehicle are very easily noticed at first, then you get used to it as well.

Mine took about 500 miles to learn my driving habits. I now have 3100 miles and it's smooth as can be.

I did not like mine at first, thought I made a mistake. Now at 3500 miles it's smooth. It helped to disappear the gear indicator, so I would not constantly see what gear it was in.
