As far as black soot on the tailpipe, the '18 engine uses (partial) direct injection, and DI engines run very dirty. So it's normal to see soot on the tailpipe. Make sure you keep the engine oil and filter changed on a good schedule. As far as it not feeling as fast, there are a lot of factors that could be at play there but I've heard others complain of the same thing. I'm starting to wonder if Ford really cranked up the torque management in the '18s because they are making so much more power? The engine certainly isn't the issue...those things are screamers now and are under-rated from the factory according to dyno results I'm seeing. My guess is the computer is holding it back, or that 3.15 rear end is holding it back. |
Have your dealer update the PCM to the latest calibration. The 2018 5.0 with dual port/direct injection has some fine tuning that is still being done by Ford. Have them perform TSB 17-2272, it made a nice difference on my 2018 5.0
