If you plug in your phone to usb port then go to Mobil apps /then enable all apps Pandora shows up in app screen. Hold voice command button for 1 second and Siri shows on display , her voice promp comes up. I told her I was hungry and she gave names of restaurants in area asked for directions ,it showed on phone but not on Nav screen ,BTW I have Nav. Don't know if it truly works or if it's just because I have phone wire into USB port. I'm hoping that you can have phone send directions to NAV this would be the same as sync services without the yearly fee. Probably why only certain app connect ??? Anyone try this

Sync 3 works with the iPhone and runs certain apps. That isn't to be confused with CarPlay. CarPlay has more expansive functionality, more apps, and lets you use the apps more natively.

I purchased a Lariat in April with the understanding CarPlay updates would be available in September/October . . . does anyone have any information in this regard??

I got some clarity on this topic today. Took my truck in for several reasons but I wanted to see if Ford was going to make good on their sales pitch to update my truck with Apple Car Play. It took 3 hours and 4 service managers to figure out that Ford was able to actually do this. In the interim, I called a couple of other dealerships near me to see if they had done this before. Apparently I'm the first guy in the Denver area to request this update!? Like discussed above, the USB connection would have to be replaced with a new "media hub" and, of course, software updates. I figured, sure I'll be the guinea pig. Why not? It's free, right? Nope! I was quoted $430 for parts and labor!

I'm a little hesitant to do it myself on a 65K truck that's still less than a year old. I'll ask my Ford dealer when I take it in for its oil change in a couple weeks.
