My truck only has 66K miles on it and I have been told I have rear differential issue. I just left truck at the dealer today to see what is going on. I have been experiencing a rubbing type sound coming from the back end of the truck. At first I thought it was a wheel bearing issue. Then I thought how could that be at such relatively low miles and age of my truck. Sure enough it was not bearings. Break pads recently changed all around, rotors machined all around and new tires so none these items were causing the noise either. I await to see what damage is involved. I am just shocked at such an early age of my truck and mileage that I am having this issue. Rear diff checked fluid checked on a regular basis so no way there should be a failure this soon.

I was telling my brother in law about it today and he said a buddy of his just had his 2017 F150 in for the same thing at only 5,000 thousand miles. He was told the auto start stop function is causing a lot of problems with rear differentials with the constant starting and stopping of the engine and build up of pressure in the rear differentials constantly fluctuating causing them to wear way before their time. I frequently turn this feature off because I don't like the constant starting and starting of the engine. IDK and I am waiting on what the dealer has to say.

Anyone else experienced a failure of this magnitude on such a new truck?

I don't know why people blame the Auto S/S feature... You truck is built to handle a 10 000lbs towing charge, the Auto S/S is not stressing your differential at all.

I would like to see actual research on that.

For the price of getting them turned, its silly to buy new when you don't have to. Rotors don't warp because of poor materials, they warp because you didn't properly bed the pads and rotors together. You are just as likely to get that pulsating back from new rotors as you are a set you had turned for $20 if you don't break them in properly.

30 years at 2 different Ford dealers, used to see it all the time. Was one of
the reasons I got out of it after 1 writer we had was always overjoyed at
getting something out of warr. covered. He would do a happy dance as he
was explaining to you that you just got kicked in the ***** again. the last straw was a $150 loss on one job- an a/c evaporator on a '13 escape, 3 different books paid almost 11hrs labor to do the job. Ford warr. pays just
over 6. I don't mind helping someone out, but should be my decision, as
the dealer IMO should make up the difference in such a situation.

Service guy said this is the first one he has ever seen go that quickly in a 2015 Model F150. Ford ended up coming through for me and absorbing 75% of the cost so for that I consider myself blessed.

Thanks for posting. My 2015 at 5 years 11 mos and 69,000 miles (Powertrain warranty is 5 years/60K) just started making whistling sounds from the rear end.
